Fantastic lunch during a bleak Fantastic lunch during a bleak December. The food was amazing and the price very reasonable, I’m sorry I have not visited here more often but will do so in future.
Birthday treat First time here and it was lovely. Tried the 7 course taster menu. It was beautiful. Bread and oil. A pork terrine. Medallions of beef. All stunning. Waitress was amazing and the atmosphere was lovely. It was a Tuesday evening but still 4 or 5 tables full in there. Absolutely Outstanding Evening out Visited Hanson’s at the Chelsea for a birthday meal with my Sister. We visited at 7pm on a Saturday evening. We haven’t visited before, and I was immediately impressed by the attentive staff and the intimate feel of the place. We we’re given a choice of tables, and picked a nice 2 seater towards the back of the main floor. The menu had a great selection of food choices, and we had the 2 course set dinner menu. I had the Slow-Cooked Belly pork and it was divine. It was the nicest meal I’ve ever had. Tasty, perfectly cooked and wonderfully presented. I then opted for the Tahitian Vanilla Crème Brulé for desert. It was the best Crème Brulé I’ve ever had. So creamy and smooth, with a crunchy sugary crust. Amazing. I would highly recommend it The staff were also lovely, out Waiter (I didn’t catch his name) was friendly, helpful and chatty (in just the right way) and helped round off the evening to a perfect night. We were one of the first to arrive, and the last to leave; we would have stayed all night if we could! 
A lovely evening What a delightful restaurant in the centre of Swansea with a cosy atmosphere, delicious choices on the menu and reasonably priced wine.We visited on a Monday when many restaurants are shut and you would not expect a great atmosphere, but Hansons did provide a good venue with a warm friendly and romantic setting.The menu is exciting. Emphasis was on fish with many interesting variations for starters mains and specials. That said I had the rack of local lamb. Delicious.The waitress was a lovely young lady and made us feel very welcome.As I said, a lovely evening, and if you are local or visiting Swansea and want a special meal…this could be the place for you! Quality at a Great Price We had a 3 course lunch here just before new year . A group of 20.The food served up by this place was amazing value for money …3 courses for £19.95 I think it was a bit extra for the steak …the only minor downside is the size of the place… can feel a bit crammed.. more so when the place busy …but this does not detract from the fact that this place is Superb !! …..Menu ,staff , Quality ,Atmosphere and Price all get top marks …if you are heading to Swansea look this place up ..We highly recommend it . Outstanding Ate here once again on Thursday and was again outstanding. Special set menu was superb and great value, the pork belly was the best I have tried. In my opinion the Chelsea should be nearer Slice in the TA ratings. Top Quality Superb food in this Two Rosette Restaurant.Small but very comfortable. Staff were friendly and helpfull. One of the best we have eaten at this year and we have lots of top quality restaurants in Cornwall to compare. Make a reservation as it does not have many covers. once again Fab food and service visited once again for a family celebration, great menu and outstanding food. Service was spot on. Een aanrader! 5 star food again and service Me and my wife have been here twice now , and I must say that that the food and service was top class again ,we had the living social deal , which was a bargain and plenty of choice , the food was well presented and cooked to perfection , and the staff very friendly …will be back again ………not bothered about paying full price , as the saying goes , you pay for what you get ? You won’t be disappointed here …… F… it When I was young penny less I liked traveling and eating in good restaurants. I would starve for two days and go to a nice recommended restaurant.Well, now I can afford my myself to indulge spending 52 quids for one person and love each dish set on the table .It is not cheap place.dishes may change, however, still each one has a unique taste coming from the sauce or the ingredients.Enjoy 
A perennial favourite I have eaten this chef’s food in different restaurants since the early 1990s in and around the Swansea area. Food is always straight forward, excellent quality and good value. We had a boozy lunch between Christmas and New Year and 2 fab courses for just £12.95. Highly recommended. Delightful Dinner Excellent Meal, well presented with super service. Comfortable seating for my bad back.Couldn’t find any fault.Big choice of food. so enjoyed Birthday treat I visited here in September for my boyfriend birthday we had the lunch time set menu. The food was delicious and amazing the atmosphere was lovely. Excellent service will definitely be returning soon Recommended by a colleague Great place visited on a Monday night in January. Place was packed with other diners who was obviously was in the know. Had fish starter and calves liver to follow. Really was looking forward to trying the cheese board but had no spare room. I’ll have ago next time I’m in Swansea. Fine dining. A lovely dining experience. Great range of food on the menu. Cosy atmosphere. Toilets are upstairs if mobility is an issue. Over from Dublin visiting family Visited this restaurant this week as a guest with new family. Service was excellent. Goats cheese starter delicious followed by lamb 2 ways – the nicest lamb dish I have tasted in years – lovely creamy potatoes with 2 lamb cutlets which were melt in your mouth ! The second lamb dish was a small pot of shepherds pie also delicious. For dessert we had the sharing platter with various assorted desserts and cheeses. Everyone in our party enjoyed their meals – duck, steak and fish dishes. Best meal I’ve had in a restaurant in a long time ! Definitely will return. Fabulous food team night out What fabulous food a little gem of a find had fish ale to start and belly pork for main and cannot recommendation highly enough was absolutely delicious and filling I could not have a dessert will definitely be back A****** Birthday day lunch with the girls We visited the Chelsea on my birthday, as a party of six, this restaurant never lets you down, the food and staff are second to none , must go more often. Delicious We have always enjoyed dining here. On our last visit we used a Groupon voucher. We were a little aprenhensive as we were not sure that we would enjoy as much. We needn’t have worried. The menu was more limited on the offer ( which is the case in most restaurants ) however the taste and experience was not compromised. A visit here will not dissapoint you . Great food, good atmosphere I have visited here a few times. NYE being the last. I have always enjoyed the meal. Lunch time is really good value for money. Dishes never look huge but always have more than enough food. Fantastic place for a leaving dinner I recently visited this restaurant with my boyfriend after months of wanting to try it and we were not disappointed. Tucked away from the chaos of Wind St, the restaurant offers a quaint and cozy atmosphere, with excellent service that isn’t too rushed nor too slow. The food was cooked beautifully, especially the Gower rack of lamb and the trio of desserts.I hope to make this a regular haunt of myself and my other half. Thanks for starting our evening on a great note. Fine Dining at modest price Visited Hanson at Chelsea with a friend. The restaurant is situated in the centre of Swansea off St. Marys Street near the Cross Keys Pub & Hogarth’s Gin Palace. I was recommended the place by a work colleague who had the three course set lunch. The occasion I was going up for was a Bill Bailey gig in Swansea Grand, with him on his Larks in Transit Tour. So we decided to have a pre-theatre lunch (and a boozy, lazy afternoon). We also went for a three course lunch with a bottle of red wine to wash it all down. I had the rabbit, chicken & ham hock terrine with apricot & ginger chutney with sourdough toast for starters. Followed by a main of steak Diane with vegetable & roast potatoes. Finally the piece de-resistance the desert – bread and butter brioche pudding with honey & whiskey. My friend had similar only he had the chicken rillettes as a starter. The meal was fantastic to the taste & well presented. The restaurant is very small, narrow & cosy. (Dare I say compact & bijou?) The staff are very helpful esp. with wine recommendations. They do have a full a la carte menu for evenings. When we return to the restaurant at a later date, my friends have their eye on the seven courses for £40s (compare that to the lunch of three courses for £20). This is well worth a visit for fans of fine dining or that special date, family celebration etc. Look forward to going back there. Fantastic food in a little hidden gem We visited on a Monday night and were delighted with the food served and the atmosphere at this fantastic little restaurant. The menu choice was extensive, and reasonably priced for the quality of meals we received. It’s location at a lane adjoining wind street means that sometimes the area outside can be very busy but don’t let that put you off! It’s well worth a visit but I would suggest making a reservation would be the best option as its not a large space, and even on a Monday night it was very popular. Just plainly SUPERD Just passing and popped in for lunch. Absolutely superb. Atmosphere, ambience, service, food choice were all five star.Wine selection was good but above all else the food was terrific.Cooked as ordered, hot and timely. Every course of the twelve served to our table was outstanding.Will I be going back? – definitely.Would I recommend? absolutely. A consistently great place to eat! Eaten here at least 5 times now, every meal has been amazing. I’ve eating from the main menu and the specials board, it’s our place to eat when we’re looking for something a bit special. I have eaten in many Michelin stared restaurants all over the world and feel the quality and seasonally reflective menu should hold a Michelin rating! Staff, well one waitress when we were there could not do enough for you. Eating with friends Our Dining Out group decided to eat here after the long gap of lockdown and were not disappointed. Every person came away extremely happy and all have said how do we beat that? Being an older age range group we really messed them about on numbers with cancellations and then extra people who wanted to come and they were totally unfazed. There was no choosing our menu in advance which is common with larger numbers. Not a person said that they had not enjoyed the meal which was served by charming staff. Recommend the prawn and crab tian and the duck confit was also extremely good but too large for one to my husband’s delight. Quality all the way! Superb menu choice, could have picked so many dishes, amazing flavours, everything done so simply well – not a surprise I guess from a chef trained in a well know London establishment. Fantastic food On a visit back to Swansea to see family, my wife and I decided to try this on the basis of the reputation of the previous hansons restaurant and on trip advisor reviews. We were very impressed. Small and intimate, the atmosphere is relaxed and the menu small enough to be fresh and local where possible. We are both fish lovers and so our choices leaned towards this side if the menu although there were some attractive alternatives available. My wife’s sole was the best she has ever tasted and my scallops (starter) were also up there. At £80 for 3 courses and wine, we felt this was fantastic value for the quality of food, although Swansea is over-run with restaurants which may impact on prices. We loved this place and would recommend whole-heartedly (dined August 3rd 2012). Excellent Lunch I dropped in for lunch with a client without a reservation and quite late but was still accommodated.Lunch was excellent, starters were sardines and smoked salmon, mains were fish and chips and hake fillet followed by Creme Brulee. Food was full of flavour and well presented and the total came to £57 including drinks.Friendly staff and good background music at the right volume.Definitely on my return list and highly recommended. Top class venue for lunch Delicious first class lunch in cosy environment. Menu choices were excellent , the meals were very impressive and the presentation equally so . We haven’t been there as a couple for quite a few years (anniversary I think) and I had forgotten how wonderful the food is. We visited on a Tuesday evening this time and were surprised to see a few couples there aswell. For such an exceptional restaurant, the atmosphere is relaxed and friendly. The waiter (sorry I’m hopeless with names) was very friendly and attentive without being imposing. Although the menu and environment is probably more suited to adults, my teenagers enjoyed themselves immensely (which probably increased my enjoyment) and ate more than they usually do!!! I don’t know why it’s taken us so long to return… I really don’t… but top brownie points to my husband on my special day! Glad we found it My wife and I were in Swansea for a couple of days and looking for nice place to lunch. We booked here but it is hidden away and we were on the point of giving up looking for it when we eventually found it. It is quite small and ” intimate” but cosy. It soon filled up with locals so booking is a must. We had the set menu which was varied with local twists – salmon fish cakes with local cheese centre, duck eggs and pate for starters. The rest of the menu is very varied and well worth another visit the next time we are in swansea Absolutely Superb It was my birthday and we arrived early, my wife and my elderly parents. The staff were attentive and chatty, and gave recommendations, they were faultless, we found out later they were actually mother and daughter.Food was superb, starters consisted of scallops with quails egg, Smoked salmon and cream of mushroom soup, all of which were excellent. mains were Pork, Hake and lamb which again were inspired. I am allergic to cows milk and wheat but they made sure I was catered for. No desserts just liqueurs, our second visit since March and will return soon, faultless and excellent value. Excellent taster menu and great service from Rachel, we will definitely visit again. A wonderful experience – when can we go again? I arranged a family meal here for my Mum’s birthday and hubby and I can’t wait for a return visit! The staff were extremely accommodating – service and food were excellent. I can thoroughly recommend the smoked salmon starter and hubby loved his scallop dish and the main course rack of lamb from the specials board which we both had was just amazing. Others in the party had goats cheese starter which went down really well and the sole and duck were excellent mains. We didn’t sample the desserts as we had taken a birthday cake along which the staff brought out, singing “Happy Birthday” – but on the next visit, there will be no excuse and there were a few I had my eye on! As for the review before this one, how can you have the misfortune to eat there more than once. If. You didn’t like it the first time, you shouldn’t have returned. If your worried about your overdraft, there is always the harvester with free salad counter. What a pearled… Very nice lunch and good value ! Called in for a set lunch last Friday We had the venison ragu to start ( very nice but could have done with more seasoning) We had the pork belly and baked cod for mains. Both were delicious and decent portions At £24 for two courses it was excellent value Recommended Top Quality in Swansea We dined here on a Saturday evening. The food was absolutely top quality. I have even been converted back to laver bread after trying it with the delicious scallops! We both had the welsh trio of lamb (in a mini shephards pie), beef and venison for a main, and it was outstanding – the best venison I’ve ever had, and the steak was first-rate too. Looking for fault, perhaps the lamb Shephards’ pie was a little ordinary, but overall it was the best main we’ve had in Swansea. The specials board can be difficult to read for a few tables, and you are packed in a little tight.If you are on a budget, it’s worth knowing that they serve drinks other than those on the wine list, but there isn’t a drinks list anywhere. Believe the hype! It’s a superb little place. Always Great Food at The Chelsea Cafe Had lunch midweek with friends. The food was as always excellent. We love going there in the evenings but this time tried lunch there and the food is just as good lunch time as in the evenings.This has to be one of the best restaurants in Wales. A small gem in a big city! Went as a group of 6 including a 3 year old boy, for dinner on a tuesday. A bit tricky to find the place. Small but cozy. The service was by a lone waiter who did a good job covering all the 3 tables with diners on that night AND managing to engage and entertain the 3 year old. I went for the £19.95 3 course set menu while the rest ordered a la carte. The bread was not bad( not warm though), but as this is the first ‘dish’ which you normally taste in a restaurant, I am sure they should try and produce something better. My starter mussels in a creamy sauce was very good with some intense delicious flavours and not surprisingly the sauce was finished off with the bread by my co-diners…and the mussels were chunky and fresh. I had salmon for the main course which was quiet good as well. I also managed to sample some of the food of my friends. The carrot and coriander soup was a touch too sweet, but still very good. The lamb steaks were excellent and the wild sea bass was perfect. Desserts were cheescake, creme brule and ice cream – all good( but could be better). All in all, we had a lovely evening with no faults with either the food or the service. Didn’t realise that the restaurant had 2 AA rosettes and I think it thoroughly deserves it. Glad we discovered this place as I do agree with one of the diner’s review that Swansea ( surprisingly for a big city) has a dearth of good restaurants. Will defenitely return. Excellent. Part of a group of 8 (2 tables of 4) on a golf tour from London. The restaurant is not large. We all had the 7 course tasting menu and it was excellent. All fish cooked exactly right. One of the courses is bread and butter but nonetheless this was great bread and for £40 good value. Ordered lots of different wine between us and all priced fairly. Service was very good as well. We love this little restaurant ..It is very small and extremely popular so booking, even for lunch is a must. I you are in a wheelchair it’s not the place for you as there is almost no room to manoeuvre, my husband is on crutches and just about managed, plus I couldn’t see a ground floor disabled toilet.The menu offers something for everyone. The food is cooked and presented beautifully, and I have always had good service here. It can get very noisy as the ceilings are low in a small room, but on booking they always let you know if there is a big party due in.A favourite we have returned to regularly. Surprised From the outside the restaurant looks like something out of a Dickensian novel. But once you walk in it is modern but not overdone. The atmosphere is welcoming and friendly. Fantastic Meal & Service We ate here on Monday night after managing to get a last minute booking. It’s small restaurant with a great atmosphere. The menu looked great and we couldn’t decide what to order so went for the tasting menu and were not disappointed. Would certainly return if in Swansea again. Non comparable – superb Visited early this week and already eyeing up a return for an evening meal. Enjoyed a superb two course lunch there with work colleagues and without doubt Swansea’s best eatery. Locally sourced dishes which were simply stunning and service to match. Your only dilemma will be what to choose as everything looks so appealing with a choice of 8 starters and 8 mains you are spoilt for choice and it is a tricky decision you will not be disappointed whatever choice you finally make. I highly recommend both the fish cake and the belly pork as they were outstanding but every member of my party enjoyed and we all had different dishes. To complement the food there is also a fabulous wine list with some perfect food pairings.Looking forward to my return Very good food, poor waitressing Had to book a couple of weeks in advance but was understandable as the restaurant is one of the best in the city and holds 2 AA Rosettes. I booked here as my parents were coming down to visit me at University. We arrived and were immediately seated , the first waitress that served us was quite cold and didn’t seem like she wanted to be there. The other waitresses were helpful but not attentive as we had to call to ask for the dessert menus and the bill despite our plates not being cleared, this was the same for a couple of other tables. We all ordered different starters, mains and desserts and all thoroughly enjoyed, just wished that the service was as good as the food. Fantastic Just returned from a romantic meal for 2 .great food in small intimate surroundings .staff were very punctual .food was very good indeed and shall be recommending to many people Every bite is a joy In Swansea, where the uplands diner is one of the highest rated establishments for food, I was delighted to find a restaurant that places quality above quantity. I’ve heard complaints from people about the service at Hanson’s. I can only go by my experience which was quite pleasant. I can’t say the service was particularly wonderful but there was certainly nothing to complain about. The service was adequate, but at a 5 star establishment, impeccable service would’ve tied together an otherwise brilliant dining experience.The menu was filled with dishes that I can only describe as traditional British food. To most, this doesn’t seem appealing but the moment my plate arrived I knew that traditional British cuisine this was not. I wasn’t presented with an abundance of food but it was just enough that I wasn’t overwhelmed. This was important as I had 3 courses. The amount didn’t seem to matter because the combination of flavors and the excellent way the food was cooked were truly surprising. Again, I cannot stress enough how well prepared the food was. From the wine to the starters to dessert, every bite was a joy. Perhaps my single visit was rare in its good outcome, perhaps continuous meals at different times would reveal unexposed weaknesses, or perhaps I’m just looking for excuses to keep going to Hanson at the Chelsea. Saturday lunchtime My wife and I booked lunch at the Chelsea. We sat upstairs and there is a small downstairs room as well. There were 2 large parties of ladies also in the restaurant. We were well received by the attentive staff. The service and especially the food was excellent. Advice is to pre book because this little gem of a restaurant is very popular. Food was sublime I went with family to celebrate my sons 30th birthday. The food was sublime, with lots of oohs and mmm’s however the fillet steak portion was the smallest I’ve ever had when eating out and not sufficient for a male appetite.Menu prices on the night were a bit than those advertised online. That being said look forward to a return visit soon. Awesome Fantastic food with friendly & attentive staff, nothing was too much trouble. We went there for a family birthday and the staff were more than happy to lay out decorations for our party. It’s a small reastaurant full of charm with a wonderful menu. I advise to eat upsatirs rather than down as the decor & atmosphere are so much better. This is a ‘hidden gem’ and a ‘must go’ place to eat either as a couple or as a large party. we have done both, but you must book in advance so as not to be disappointed. We frequently eat at The Chelsea Cafe and have done for years.I have to say we have never been disappointed. Lunch or dinner is always excellent.We visited lunchtime as a group of friends, there is a smashing lunchtime menu with delicious food reasonably priced. All of us thoroughly enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. There service is also first class.I thoroughly recommend it and will certainly be back again soon. The menu is delightful, with lovely local produce available. I would highly recommend the lamb and dauphinoise potatoes! The service is brilliant – friendly, timely and efficient. A lovely relaxed atmosphere, where you could not ask for better food. A sure favourite with myself and my family – can’t wait for our next visit. A hidden gem Would you believe I was recommended this restaurant when I got talking to the operator when buying car insurance and what a recommendation. We had a fantastic meal and will definitely visit again. I understand they also do a Prosecco lunch. good quality food and service Went mid week for a friends anniversary , we had very good food and un-intrusive service. As with any restaurant that serves good food you struggle to make a choice from the menu and several visits are clearly required. A good selection of wine . Steve was a STAR!!!! We ate here last night…four of us, and it was Fabulous!!! Steve looked after us VERY well and was most informative about the menu choices. I had the “Set Evening Menu” priced at £19.50. To start with I had a Chicken Liver Parfait which was delicious, everything on the plate was fresh and the bread to accompany was Home-Made. I followed this with Local Gower Pork in a Cream and Mushroom Sauce…that too was beautifully cooked and served along with a selection of fresh vegetables. For dessert I chose Baileys Irish Cream Crème Brulee. One of my friends had Tempura Battered Monk Fish and another had Gower Lamb cooked 3 different ways….again all were really beautifully cooked and presented. Next time I am in Swansea I shall be returning. As I said “Steve” who served us was extremely personable and likeable!!! A nice find Went here as part of my father in law 70th Birthday celebrations. We booked a table for 12 of us. It’s a small restaurant but has a nice atmosphere. We all had starters and mains. I brought my five year old. The website said that they do a children’s menu but they don’t. My son just had some chips.I had the Swansea salmon with melon, capers, pickles and horseradish to start. It was lovely. My husband had the scallops and laverbread and cockle crumble. I had the duck confit. It was nice but a bit greasy. The potato gratin was tasty. My husband had the steak and from the varied meals everybody enjoyed.The restaurant is close to wine street and was a few drunks around and loud. Worth noting that the only toilet is upstairs, and very steep stairs. It isn’t cheap but you are paying for quality. Excellent value for money Two friends and I went here for our usual Christmas get together. We were warmly greeted and shown immediately to our table. This is the first time I have been seated downstairs and the steps down are steep and narrow so not suited to anyone with mobility problems. Our table had ample room around it. The service was very quick – although not hurried – and came with a smile. We all had the 3 course lunch menu. I had chicken liver parfait with walnut bread to start which was delicious. For the main it was baked salmon on a bed of shredded veg and noodles. The salmon was succulent and the veg and noodles extremely tasty. For dessert I had the chocolate tart with a chocolate ganache – very rich but enjoyed every mouthful! At £19.95 for the three courses it was money very well spent. Looking forward to my next visit. Excellent food and service I eat here regularly as it is one of my favourite restaurants in Swansea. I visited with friends this week to celebrate Christmas. It was busy but the service was friendly and efficient. We ate from the lunch menu. To start I had the chicken liver parfait with chutney and warm walnut bread which was delicious. For the main it was baked hake on a bed of welsh rarebit and mash. The fish was succulent and the combination of flavours worked well. For dessert I had the chocolate tart which set my taste buds tingling, coffee rounded off one of the best meals I have had for a while. The three course lunch menu is £19.95 and worth every penny and, if you haven’t done so before, I would recommend a visit. One thing to note however, if you have mobility problems, is that the toilet is upstairs with no lift. Perfection Fabulous as always. Food was beautiful, the staff couldn’t do enough for us. ANNIVERSARY LUNCH I have visited this gem before and knew it would be a perfect place to treat my wife for our anniversary.The welcome was warm and friendly from the two waitresses. The food was delivered in evenly spaced intervals.The food was of high quality and a delight.Goats cheese cheesecake, vegetable soupCrispy pork belly and steak with pepper sauce. Lemon tart and creme brulie.The venue is compact and we were glad to be seated in a corner as space for the waitresses is limited when the tables are full which they were with all the graduations. Would visit again and would highly recommend this cosy restaurant. Won’t visit again 😢 We used to consider this restaurant our favourite and first choice when eating out in Swansea. However, after a recent visit and some very upsetting communication from the owner we won’t be returning. I won’t be vengeful and give it a poor rating as the food is truly delightful and the atmosphere is lovely. It’s a small restaurant and booking is advisable. They do have tables downstairs but that area doesn’t have the same atmosphere as the main restaurant. It’s not suitable for disabled clients who may have trouble climbing stairs to go to the toilet. I’ve had to accompany a family member to the pub next door in order for her to use the toilet. It has a children’s menu but I would question if it is child friendly. However, I wish them continued success for the future. High quality food at a reasonable price. Went there on a first date, we both had starters and main accompanied by a bottle of white wine. The staff were welcoming and very friendly and the food was absolutely fantastic. I was shocked at my bill being so reasonable. Will definitely return in the very near future. Amazing!!!
