Excellent Lunch I dropped in for lunch with a client without a reservation and quite late but was still accommodated.Lunch was excellent, starters were sardines and smoked salmon, mains were fish and chips and hake fillet followed by Creme Brulee. Food was full of flavour and well presented and the total came to £57 including drinks.Friendly staff and good background music at the right volume.Definitely on my return list and highly recommended.
Fantastic Fish Food Restaurant What a fantastic recommendation to visit this restaurant. If you like fish, then this is the place to go, excellent menu choice & specials board, good wine and very good service. will go again and will recommend to others
Good food and Great Service Have to call to book a table for four. It was a bit hard to locate due to poor street lighting. Finally had to ask for directions. Got seated and started to order our starters and followed by the main dishes. I didn’t have to wait too long and the food was served. The food tasted great and I was happy with the service as well. The premises were small and I was told it could only accommodate 32 guests. I would recommend and will definitely come back if I am in Swansea in the near future.
Lovely lunch Great food + atmosphere. Very busy though – make sure you book, especially to get a table upstairs (nicer).
Excellent in every way We visited on a Tuesday night, with very few fellow diners but we felt the food, service and ambiance were first class. Although Hanson’s concentrates on fish, with a healthy specials board of fish, there is plenty of choice available. The chef is clearly influenced by classic french style cooking and presentation, flavour and quality were faultless. The waiter was friendly and efficient and made the occasion special. My wife dined from the A La Carte menu (reckon £30 for three courses) whilst I had the set £19.99 menu. Wines were reasonably priced. Would I go back if in the area again? You bet!
Terrific experience We got lucky and showed up early as a party of two at opening and got seated just before 7. Our salmon first course and Spanish rose were a good start. Then the hake special and duck confit were terrific as the place packed up with locals which is always a good sign. Highly recommend this place.
second visit and fab again me and my wife have been here twice now , and i must say that the food is world class , we chose the 3 course meal each time which is varied , and this place cannot fail you ….it is a little pricey , but the saying is you only get what you pay for ?we be going back soon .keep up the good work guys ……..
Cosy City Haunt Tucked away in a quaint little street just off Swansea’s popular Wind Street is this super restaurant. The menu is local, fresh and really good value. Very stylish and beautifully presented. Worth a visit to discover their fresh fish dishes.
Lunchtime visit. Visited for birthday celebration lunch. Small restaurant in the middle of the city – seats approximately 30. Good choice on menu. Chose from lunch time menu and had chose the two course menu not three course. There was also a set lunch menu. Service was quite slow but enabled us to catch up on news as we hadn’t seen each other for a while. Would visit this restaurant again on a special occasion.
Quality in a small setting Took advantage of a Travelzoo offer and had the special menu. Good choices, well cooked. Well presented. Very tasty, although a bit too rich. Excellent service and a great atmosphere. Will go again
Celebrate at Hansons Never let down. A lovely restaurant with a proper qualified Chef. Food excellent. Service good. We also went in July for our Diamond wedding anniversary. We always choose Hansons for special occasions.
Very pleased Went for the 3 course lunch menu. Every course was delicious and filling. I didn’t eat until around 9pm that night due to the meal. Very small and cosy. Can’t imagine it would be great for big parties due to the size. The sauce with the confit duck was delicious but I would have liked more. Only comment I would make in regards to improvement is that the staff were quite slow in services and long wait between starter and main course, around 25 minutes. I would go again however
An excellent evening ouit Lovely food and an excellent wine list. Took some old foodie friends there who were suitably impressed. Different dishes such as Cod Kiev – well worth trying. We’ll be back.
Never lets me down Great value and superb food. Belly pork is one of the best I’ve ever had. I can’t wait to go back. Good selection of wines which appeased my self professed wine snob friend.
What a Place What can I say….this is such a good place to eat. The lunch menu offers such good value it is a place you should visit! Top notch.
A Perfect Lunch A sunny day brought us to Swansea for a look around and a walk. We researched somewhere reasonable for lunch and found many restaurants were closed as it was a Monday. A review of the TA reports suggested that Hanson at the Chelsea might be a good choice, and we were not disappointed. This is a small (c30 seat) restaurant – casual dining, with plain tables nicely dressed. The menu at lunchtime is a three course (with around six choices per course) for just under £20. The wine list includes three or four good reds and whites by the glass. Service was efficient and swift, yet unhurried. But the main event was the food. This is as serious kitchen. As starters, I chose the salmon fish cake with Perl Wen melting centre whilst my partner chose the smoked salmon and flaked crab, paired with summer fruits and berries. Both were excellent with the fish cake having that balance of external crispness and internal moisture and taste, helped by the melting cheese inside. The smoked salmon and crab contrasted well with the fruit on this hot summer’s day and was a delight. We chose confit of duck and hake filet as our main courses. The hake came with mushroom parfait potato glaze and a herb butter sauce, with vegetables. It was judged to perfection and notably the vegetables were that right balance between al-dente and over-cooked. The mange-tout in particular were beautifully crisp yet not hard. Timing is clearly a strong point in the kitchen. The duck dish with gratin potatoes and port & orange sauce was reported by my partner as the best tasted for many years. For dessert a lemon tart – moist and tangy and a brownie with anglaise sauce and honeycomb ice cream – light and satisfying. The meal ended with good coffee. This is a really rewarding find in a relatively insignificant back-street just off Wind Street near the castle. The value for money is good and it was hard to fault any aspect of what was a truly enjoyable and relaxed lunch experience.
Interesting and Pleasant Venue First visit, and we went with a taster menu voucher. Service was excellent, and food was gorgeous. The taster menu had been put together thoughtfully, and we enjoyed every course. A tiny little restaurant that you could easily walk past. My one comment would be that the loos could do with a bit of a freshen up.
Good tasting menu deal Found a deal on Travelzoo which my friends and I decided to buy. £89, for 4 people for the 5 course tasting menu. Included bread and coffee. We were quite impressed with our food. Interesting and enjoyable. 3 of us had hake and 1 had the duck for an extra £2 as our main course. Very good. It was a fairly quiet night with 1 waiter, a pleasant young man. He looked after us well. Full price for the tasting menu is £39.95. Despite really enjoying our food, we didn’t think we’d choose that menu at that price. The rillette was not something I’d choose again for instance, but for the price we paid, we enjoyed everything.
Birthday dinner It was our first time visiting this restaurant and it will not be are last – IT WAS FANTASTIC The food was amazing, my husband had the lamb and mini shepherds pie – he hasn’t stopped talking about the flavours in the shepherds pie😀 stunning. The whole evening was fantastic and the waitress was amazing – nothing too much trouble for her and so down to earth. We cannot wait to go back x
Recommended by a colleague Great place visited on a Monday night in January. Place was packed with other diners who was obviously was in the know. Had fish starter and calves liver to follow. Really was looking forward to trying the cheese board but had no spare room. I’ll have ago next time I’m in Swansea.
Brilliant little gem… Visited for the first time lunchtime yesterday, compliments of a TravelZoo voucher. What a find! Small but atmospheric restaurant hidden away behind Wind Street. Excellent taster menu and great service from Rachel, we will definitely visit again.
Fantastic lunch at the Chelsea Cafe to brighten a wet, dreary day. My partner and I visited the restaurant on Tuesday lunchtime. We did not reserve and found the restaurant reasonably full. The service from the waitress was excellent and she served us in an efficient, unflustered manner, and was able to offer good advice on the dishes we ordered. As to the food itself, well….My starter was the Salmon and crab and it was a visual and tastey delight. The main I had was the Hake, whilst my partner had Confit of duck. We finished with brioche bread and butter pudding infused with whisky and honey and crepe brûlée, plus we each had a glass of wine with our meal which took the meal to £50 which I thought very reasonable for the excellent quality of the food on offer here. The place has been going for the best part of 18 years and is an absolute gem of a restaurant.
Lovely food and atmosphere We booked only the day before, but were told because we were only a table of two that they’d be able to fit us. Upon arrival, we were taken downstairs to sit on our own- not ideal as we weren’t told this on the phone. Here we ordered drinks and our food, before a waitress come down to tell us a table had cancelled and there was now a table upstairs available for us. We were seated, right beneath the specials board. A bit gutted that we didn’t see this or was made aware of the specials before ordering.Despite this, we really enjoyed our evening from here…We ordered 3 courses; we had the duck and the fillet steak, both beautiful food. Could not fault it, one of the nicest dishes I’ve had. My partner also described the cheesecake as “the best cheesecake I’ve ever had”.It’s only a small restaurant, and all the tables are quite close together. I personally like this, as it creates character and atmosphere. And the staff were lovely and really friendly. Overall, a lovely evening out.
Fabulous afternoon.. Had a beautiful meal with my wife on the day restrictions changed again, luckily before 6pm so could enjoy a drink too. Felt very Covid safe at all times.Fantastic quality to all courses, and wonderful service from Molly. Can’t wait to return again under more normal circumstances. 👌👌
Bijou British This is a small restaurant, just off the stag/hen do mecca that is Wind St. But don’t be put off – it is a place that cares about it’s local produce, and the staff are attentive and well informed. The dishes and menu are like the restaurant – perfectly proportioned, but not gargantuan. It’s all about quality. Local produce is the speciality – whether it is a local catch of the day, or a rack of Welsh Lamb (I’d recommend – though they sell out, so maybe order ahead if you want to taste the lamb). The wine list is very well balanced, and you’ll find something to please your palate. I’ve been twice, and will go again.
Amazing pearl of Swansea I want to leave a review and want them to prosper but absolutely love this restaurant as is. Booking is essential we were a party of three, wine was excellent Marlborough savignon blanc, our starters were 2 times smoked salmon which was gorgeous and scallops (great scallops which didn’t need the accompanying items) Main course hake Kiev and pork belly amazing, I am a pain as on for map diet but have absolutely no issues as they always cater for my dietary issues. Great staff we love it here, desserts are similarly excellent, two tahitian pannacottas and an espresso. Excellent value at £133
Book to avoid disappointment Visited on my birthday for lunch. Been there long time ago and cannot work out why have not been back before. Food excellent staff attentive but not overbearing. I had three courses which is really unusual for me. Scotch egg on top of black pudding with some delicious sauces. Next was fish in tempura batter with triple cooked chips, again delicious. Desert I chose was the cheese cake. We will be going back in weeks not years. It is a small resteraunt so that is why I advised book to avoid disappointment at this time of year.
Awesome Went there for dinner last night. It was very quiet but what an amazing evening. The food was delicious. The salmon fish cake to start was ok, hoped it would be better but the welsh trio that I had for main was amazing. Perfectly cooked local lamb chops, beautifully pink, Welsh fillet also perfect and a delicious mini cottage pie. My girlfriend had the goats cheese to start which was great and they cooked a battered hake to order even though it was not on the evening menu. That too was amazing. So, excellent food, excellent service and an excellent night. Great wine too! Can’t wait to go back. Sooner rather than later.
Fantastic food, so-so service I would definately recommend this resteraunt 100% as far as the food is concerned, we were a large party and so I saw (and tasted!!) quite a few of the options. Everything I tried was first class, I had the fish cake and the 8 hour pork and both were stunning. The wine and champagne were also reasonably priced and came from a good selection. My only problem with the whole night was the first waitress we encountered, she was rude and confrontational from the moment we arrived and thankfuly after a while we dealt with other two waiting staff who were both completely proffesional and friendly. The first waitress certainly won’t stop me from repeating my visit but I think that my spirit will dip a little if she come to take our order!!
Best restaurant in Swansea Such a find I just wish I’d found it sooner! Honestly the food is amazing, brilliant flavours, cooked perfectly and makes you want to go back time and time again! The chef is without a doubt on another level than most in Swansea and creates a range of mouth watering dishes throughout the year. I’ve been there several times and found both the atmosphere and service very warm, relaxed and friendly. I’d recommend for special occasions or a week day meal as they do great deals. Suitable for couples, family, friends, business or solo. Can’t wait to go back!
Another Lovely Lunch at Hansons. My wife and I eat at Hansons every few weeks and every time the food is excellent. Not the cheapest, but you will have to a long way to get better food. The service is always first class. I would go so far as to say the best restaurant in or around Swansea.
Always amazing I’ve eaten here many times. In fact I had my graduation meal here. Their lunch menu is really good value and the specials are also very interesting. Service and the standard of food is second to none. It’s a small venue with a downstairs seating area that I don’t like (no natural light and noisy) so if you book make sure you ask to be seated upstairs.
Lovely meal, but more company than we bargained for The food here is not cheap, but is fantastic. My steak with peppercorn sauce was terrific, as was the wine. I even ate the onion rings, which I usually despise. Not because I was starving – they actually looked very appetising. After being thoroughly stuffed from the main courses, my partner and I both had to find room for the tempting desserts and I was not let down by my créme brulée.The downside of our evening was being sat so close to the next couple it was rather uncomfortable. This was made worse by the fact that the lady did not stop moaning about her partner underpaying a painter who had done her a deal (I think). It was not a case of us eavesdropping, but there was so little room between us it was like being placed on a table for four with complete strangers. Personally I hate it when this happens, as knowing you will be overheard can stop you speaking freely and therefore properly relaxing. There were other tables spaced out more generously, but it’s luck of the draw whether you end up on one. I will still wholeheartedly recommend the restaurant as we both ended up totally fulfilled by the meal itself.
Best meal I’ve had Wow the food here was beautiful. It isnt cheap but for a special occasion it is well worth it. I can highly recommend everything i had…the scallop starter, hanson trio main and sharing desert. All to die for. We did have to wait a while for starters but there were a couple of big tables in. The waiters were very helpful and attentive and its a lovely romantic place. We’ll be back!
Delicious Visited for lunch with friends. The lunch set menu has plenty of choice – starter and main, or main and dessert. Our party had a mix of starters and desserts. The starter was pate and looked beautiful, served with bread and chutney. Mains included hake Kiev and chicken with pasta. The hake was served with chips. All were delicious. Desserts were lemon tart and baked cheesecake. Again plates were scraped clean. If you want delicious food that’s slightly different then this is the place to visit.
Date night ! What a find, I had heard some good things about this lovely little gem of a restaurant in Swansea but had as yet not found a suitable evening to visit.Well an impromptu date night and a lucky table reservation soon put that straight.Lovely atmosphere in what is a quite compact venue, though not too compact and the experience was cosy not cramped. Also centrally located so you can if you wish go onward to a number of venues for later night drinks. The staff were attentive despite that there were a few large groups in that evening. The star of the show of course was the food, everything cooked to perfection and utterly delicious. We will definitely return!
Stunning My husband and I love this restaurant. We went there yesterday, 23rd June for our anniversary. The staff are so friendly and accommodating, Sophie so knowledgeable, an amazing person, Andrew the best chef ever, Nathan well, very inspirational with his soup recipes. Thank you to you all.
Good food good service Eight of us ate at Hansons the food was good as was the service. Staff very pleasant and helpful. Only down side was there are lots of covers in a small area.
Outstanding First visit to Hanson on recommendations of work colleagues, this restaurant is set in a cosy welcoming environment. There is a sensible selection of meals that are cooked to the best quality and the waitress service is friendly and polite but not in your face. We would totally recommend this restaurant for a romantic meal; the rack of lamb was out of this world and the fillet steak was cooked to perfection totally melt in the mouth….. My husband is gutted he couldn’t manage 2 desserts!! Looking forward to our next visit.
wow The restaurant sn’t very big but it’s a bit of a hidden gem to be honest. I didn’t know anything about it but was recommended by a collegure so decided to treat the misses to some dinner. The steak was probably the best steak that I’ve ever tasted. Just melt in your mouth. It was so good. I cannot wait to dine there again!
Surprise visit for birthday meal My husband booked Hanson’s for a birthday meal with my family. We haven’t been there as a couple for quite a few years (anniversary I think) and I had forgotten how wonderful the food is. We visited on a Tuesday evening this time and were surprised to see a few couples there aswell. For such an exceptional restaurant, the atmosphere is relaxed and friendly. The waiter (sorry I’m hopeless with names) was very friendly and attentive without being imposing. Although the menu and environment is probably more suited to adults, my teenagers enjoyed themselves immensely (which probably increased my enjoyment) and ate more than they usually do!!! I don’t know why it’s taken us so long to return… I really don’t… but top brownie points to my husband on my special day!
Amazing Often go here mainly for lunch. Andrew is an amazing chef, the food is of high quality and So flavoursome. The staff are great so friendly, would definitely recommend but you would need to book.
Best meal in Swansea! I have regularly eaten at this restaurant and it is great value for money. As for the review before this one, how can you have the misfortune to eat there more than once. If. You didn’t like it the first time, you shouldn’t have returned. If your worried about your overdraft, there is always the harvester with free salad counter. What a pearled…
Quality at a Great Price We had a 3 course lunch here just before new year . A group of 20.The food served up by this place was amazing value for money …3 courses for £19.95 I think it was a bit extra for the steak …the only minor downside is the size of the place… can feel a bit crammed.. more so when the place busy …but this does not detract from the fact that this place is Superb !! …..Menu ,staff , Quality ,Atmosphere and Price all get top marks …if you are heading to Swansea look this place up ..We highly recommend it .
Great food, great atmosphere Gorgeous meal for birthday with lunchtime menu very reasonable. Very romantic atmosphere – however if there are large groups not so romantic. Great service, great choice and lovely food
Little Gem I ruddy love this restaurant, the staff are great the food even better, decor is amazing to vintage but not dated.I’d eat here every night if I could but I can’t so I go all out when I do
Our first night of three in Our first night of three in Swansea and we couldn’t have asked for better!! What an amazing restaurant! The food was incredible and the service was impeccable. Both the waiter and waitress were very attentive and friendly and made us feel very welcome! Can definitely recommend the sharing dessert platter and any of the main courses!! Superb!
Taster menu lunch Great value, quality food, and good wine list and service. Will definitely go again to try their a-la-carte menu.Shame the tables and chairs weren’t a little bigger and more comfortable, which stops it getitng 5* from me.
Fantastic Meal & Service We ate here on Monday night after managing to get a last minute booking. It’s small restaurant with a great atmosphere. The menu looked great and we couldn’t decide what to order so went for the tasting menu and were not disappointed. Would certainly return if in Swansea again.
Anniversary lunch We visited today for the first time and will definitely be back! What a fabulous find – set lunch was delicious. The starters of goats cheese cheesecake and venison ragu were fantastic, followed by the most delicious fish in tempura batter with chips and cod wrapped in Serrano ham on linguine carbonara. We couldn’t resist the dessert menu and opted for bread and butter pudding, so glad we did as it was faultless. Can honestly say it’s the best anniversary meal we’ve had, the staff were lovely and we can’t wait to go back
EXCELLENT RESTAURANT AND SERVICE – NEVER DISAPPOINTS This has to be one of the best restaurants in Swansea… you need to book ahead as hardly ever can get in as a “walk in” as it has limited tables and very popular. Service is attentive and welcoming – always friendly and making sure everything is fine, they are constantly on the watch out to see if anyone needs anything. The food is excellent – set menu at lunchtime is extremely good value and week on week there are always some changes with popular things such as steak, fish etc., always available. Am personally not a great dessert person but they do look stunning and when I have been with a guest then they have always certainly enjoyed. Definitely worth going… one of the best establishments in town!
chelsea cafe Advance booking needed.Small with a lovely cosy atmosphere.Very frendly staff. Excellent food, reasonably priced.Duck egg & pate with soldiers a very nice starter as was the salmon fishcake. The lamb main was absolutely delicious, unfortunatly we didn’t have space for a desert after the first 2 courses. This place is consistantly excelent.
Fantastic lunch during a bleak Fantastic lunch during a bleak December. The food was amazing and the price very reasonable, I’m sorry I have not visited here more often but will do so in future.
Fantastic evening Haven’t been here for some time but glad we did. What a superb welcome by staff at Hanson at the Chelsea. We ate superb food and enjoyed some lovely wine. The starters were scallops for my wife and I had the fish cake with Perl Las. For main we had the belly pork and the steak which were cooked to perfection.. Thanks to Andrew Hanson and his staff for a great evening looking forward to returning soon.
Lovely food, nice birthday treat We went here for my birthday and there was a group of 5 of us. We were seated downstairs and we were the only ones downstairs. This was fine as we were a group but would have been disappointing if there were less of us. We all chose the steak and it was excellent. Also the trio of puddings was quite literally like having 3 desserts – I definitely recommend them!
Fantastic restaurant – great lunch! My husband and I had the set lunch here in December and it was great value for money. There was real attention to detail in the presentation of the dishes, and the chicken liver parfait and the duck in particular were delicious. Only criticism is that it feels a little too cramped in there, but otherwise it’s a real city centre gem.
Great food, relaxed service, reasonable value What more can you ask for? There is a regular dinner menu and a ‘specials’ board … the prices of some dishes were on the high side but, overall, fairly reasonable. The set-lunch menu looks to be excellent value.
Very good food, average atmosphere Me and three friends had a nice dinner at Hanson last weekend. Their food is delicious. Very nicely cooked and full of flavour. I especially enjoyed their Halibut steak fillet served on a bed of mussels and clams. Yummy! Overall, we had a great evening, but to be completely honest I think the place lacks in ambient and atmosphere. The room is a bit too boring and plain. Moreover, the service went up and down during the evening (the service provided by the male waiter was very nice, while the ones received from the female waiter was not).
Fabulous food team night out What fabulous food a little gem of a find had fish ale to start and belly pork for main and cannot recommendation highly enough was absolutely delicious and filling I could not have a dessert will definitely be back A******
Lovely lunch I visited this cosy little restaurant mid week for lunch, after friends recommended it to us, as there were no other customers there when we entered we were able to pick our table,we chose a table for two near the door as the other tables were to close together, a pleasant waitress took our coats and handed the menu, a good selection for lunch time,my husbands main arrived which was excellent and well presented, my fish arrived without the vegetables, the waitress took it back to the kitchen,it was returned with lovely crunchy vegetables and a delicious cheese sauce, I picked the creme brûlée which was one of the best I have had,we most definitely would return hoping to have the same table.
Fantastic place for a leaving dinner I recently visited this restaurant with my boyfriend after months of wanting to try it and we were not disappointed. Tucked away from the chaos of Wind St, the restaurant offers a quaint and cozy atmosphere, with excellent service that isn’t too rushed nor too slow. The food was cooked beautifully, especially the Gower rack of lamb and the trio of desserts.I hope to make this a regular haunt of myself and my other half. Thanks for starting our evening on a great note.
I can see why we were recommended this restaurant This was my first visit to Swansea and we were recommended this excellent restaurant. Zero complaints. Lovely but quiet atmosphere. We were welcomed by a friendly waitress and the standard remained very high. The menu had great variety and the steak was cooked perfectly and the dessert was also delicious. Highly recommended.
Another Great Meal at Hansons. We are regular visitors to Hansons at the Chelsea, and every time we have excellent food and first class service. This is most certainly one of the very best restaurants in Swansea and for many miles around.I would thoroughly recommend Hansons to anyone who appreciates good food.
Top Quality Superb food in this Two Rosette Restaurant.Small but very comfortable. Staff were friendly and helpfull. One of the best we have eaten at this year and we have lots of top quality restaurants in Cornwall to compare. Make a reservation as it does not have many covers.
Mam’s 80th Swansea salmon is a great starter, we all had it, my wife had hake, my mother had belly pork as did I, very good! Not as exceptional as usual but very busy! Love this place, great champagne, excellent quality and value £109 including good champagne.
Fantastic Food A recent visit with an old friend and the food was fantastic. The restaurant is small but cosy and the service is excellent. Definitely be visiting again
5 star food again and service Me and my wife have been here twice now , and I must say that that the food and service was top class again ,we had the living social deal , which was a bargain and plenty of choice , the food was well presented and cooked to perfection , and the staff very friendly …will be back again ………not bothered about paying full price , as the saying goes , you pay for what you get ? You won’t be disappointed here ……Let us know what we were able to do for you.
